Teaching experiments of subject Manager Informatics

We have been working in this area since 1990. We have planned and had some courses in informatics for branches Manager, so we get a set of experiences and conclusions concerning to the gradual and postgraduate teaching.

We would like to summarise the main experiences. The important points are as follows:

- aspects for thematic of courses;

- specialities of gradual and postgraduate student populations;

- statistical conclusions.

Abstract

The paper deals with the basic concepts and implementation of a simulation curriculum. First we give a description about an ideal curriculum structure which makes it possible to create curricula for different purposes. After that the curriculum development within the TEMPUS S_JEP 07318-94 project at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences will be described. Finally some project results are presented.

Abstract

There has been an increasing interest in economic simulation games in recent years. LUDUS computer aided simulation game for business decision and planning is the most wide-spread simulation game being taught in Germany. In the framework of the TEMPUS S_JEP-07318-94 project - with the approval of the vendor Rado-Plan - the game arrived from the FHO Emden to the Budapest University of Economic Sciences. It was translated into Hungarian and in the 1995/96 academic year it was put in the curriculum as well. We have four language versions of the game. The soul of the game is the simulation model operated by over hundred parameters and with more than 380 model data. In our paper we give a review of the structure and the pedagogical target of the game. Our experience shows the following: participants of the management/business game obtain the ability (a) to use the computer as an instrument of decision support, (b) to work in teams, (c) to apply their theoretical economic knowledge, (d) to recognize the connection and interdependency between the different business areas, (e) to increase professional language knowledge of the students.

Abstract

This presentation is about the possibilities of a comfortable educational application, introduced by Borland.

We would like to summarise the main experiences. The important points are as follows:

- aspects of using computer applications;

- specialities of Quattro in forming positive reaction to computers in student populations;

- the possibility of Quattro for level of "advanced".

Abstract

At the Faculty of Business and Economics of the Janus Pannonius University I teach the subject "Expert Systems" within different specialisation in the fields of "Management Information Systems". My paper deals with teaching of this subject based on my experience, and I sum up some possibilities how to develop this subject.

After analysing the major research topics of Management Information Systems and the teaching of the Management Information Systems I suggest to extend the subject "Expert Systems" and to introduce other methods of artificial intelligence like neural networks, fuzzy systems.

INFORMÁCIÓ-MANAGEMENT: STÍLUS, VAGY SZAKMA?

Dr.Dobay Péter, dobay@ktk.jpte.hu
Janus Pannonius Tudományegyetem, Pécs

Information Management becomes to play an important role in many professions which really need utilisation of information. The importance of managing the Information Services staff, the business process of purchasing hardware, software and IT manpower, to audit equipments, IT projects, processes, investments - these are mostly managerial - and not simply IT-oriented - problems in a high-tech environment.

The paper seeks for a clear definition of IM, compares books, seminars, curriculum, etc. dedicated to IM in Hungary and abroad. The main objective is to prove: Information Management attitude can be taught to those students, who run a graduate diploma program on business, on engineering, or even on social sciences.
