Abstract

Significant trends can be observed in European human resource development sphere triggering substantial changes also in the traditional public- and higher education systems. The relevant response to the challenges of these developments in human resource sphere is the open and distance learning, the recognition and appreciation of which has changed significantly. The main driving force of this change has been the rapid development in the use of advanced information technology in education. The characteristics and impact of open and distance learning and the opportunities, threats of the use of information technology are analysed and recommendations are formulated in the paper.

Abstract

The presentation provides a summary of „Open Learning for Land Offices" (OLLO) TEMPUS Joint European Project. The distance learning course development project was started in September 1995. The author gives a review of the aims and first results of OLLO. The Ministry of Agriculture operates a national network of Land Offices, employing over 4500 personnel who maintain and update the property records of the country. CSLM is the principal centre for the education and training of Land Surveyors at B.Sc. level in Hungary. Land Offices are very important in the transition process of society. In the immediate future they have a leading role in Land Consolidation or in a little broader sense in Land / Environmental Management. The background of the development is given by a TEMPUS JEP, where the members are CSLM, University of Veszprém, Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, School of Surveying at the University of East-London and Katholic University of Leuven.

Abstract

It has recently been recognized that scientific engineering work produce much more profit than any other investment. The speed of the appearance of new scientific and technological results necessitates the formation of new education systems and life long retraining. On the other hand, providing up-to-date knowledge is impossible without the application of new scientific and technological results. This interdependence is best treated within the system of distant education which has proven to be very successful all over the world, but local peculiarities must have an important role in the development of means and methods applied. The present lecture gives a review of problems and available pedagogical as well as technological solutions.

Abstract

VIDEOCONFERENCING IN DISTANCE EDUCATION

Founded last year, Vidcom Ltd., which is the first company in Hungary that expressively specializes in videocommunication, is the Hungarian partner of Compression Labs, Inc. (USA). CLI is a leader in the rapidly expanding video communications inndustry. It manufactures a variety of different products, and has a market share of over 70% on the market of equal or over 384 kbps videokonferencing. In the USA over fifty corporations and education institutions participate in CLI's distance education program. Their benefits are tremendeous and far reaching, both in time and dollars saved. Students in rural areas receive classes not offered at their local schools; star teachers are shared with other locations. Videoconferencing in education enables the teacher to connect multiple sites together and define what each group of students sees on the screen, providing face-to-face contact between teacher and students. The teacher is able to see who is asking a question or to evaluate how the group is responding to the lesson. The system provides a highly interactive learning experience, while giving the teacher control of the classroom as if she or he were in the same room with the students. Even though the development of distance education is still at an early stage in Hungary some successful experiences have already been made.

Abstract

The importance of ecological, environment-protectional knowledge in economical decission must be called into questions regarding the present state of human environment. There are more recent kinds of media to be skilled in modern ecology. Hungarian edition of Plant Ecology (Szabó 1995) has been used as data-base for processing a hypertext system.
