As far as the programmes that are accredited by the Accreditation Committee for Libraries are concerned, the foundation founded and started four programmes and started two.

In 2001, the programmes started at spring and in the autumn as well. In each of our programme the number of participants was optimal. The two occasions provided sufficient information in order to publish the views of the participants and the trainers.

Training programmes are necessary and in their current form they are forward-looking. The programmes are successful, the participants return to their work with new knowledge and ambitions.

I believe it is important to evaluate the organisational aspect of the training programme, and its method of financing as well.

The presentation discusses how the foundation can provide further help in the area of further education and training for librarians. The issue of the so-called portal service came up. As far as the capacity of the service is concerned, in addition to other options, it is also capable to provide information about libraries that are of public interest. Our distant learning materials are also interesting. The distant learning programmes can extend the possibilities for further training either independently, or as supplementary curriculum.
