University level services with LDAP

At the University of Debrecen a new LDAP-based service is forming. It will be the basis for using and managing resources on the network. This work is part of a larger project initially started by the University of Debrecen, the University of Szeged and Szent István University, and later continued by a project of the National Information Infrastructure Development Program. The presentation will review mainly the advances at the University of Debrecen.

There are two essential parts of the system: the user registry and the network node registry. The former can automate the process of creating user accounts on the central servers, and provides a foundation for a unified e-mail system and white pages service. The latter helps maintaining a DNS database of several thousand computers.

The system has an easy to use web based user interface written in PHP.
