Portal literally means gate, entrance or display (window). In today’s terms portal is a web service that delivers information to people for their day-to-day activities and entertainment. A good portal engages, entertains and navigates while surfing on the web. Actually a portal is a multitude of dynamically changing Internet pages.

The most significant features of a portal: searchable and categorisable link and content repository; dynamic personalisation; collaborative elements (e-mail, chat discussion boards, etc.); one doesn’t need to be professional to use it. The user will never leave a properly built portal environment since he/she is provided with everything –customised from a single point. Portals can be categorised in various aspects, majority of them fits into more categories. Their general purpose is providing information and entertainment.

CleverPath Portal is a Java-based (platform independent) software package for building customisable, interactive portals combining multiple models (B2C, B2E, etc.) in a few days’ time. Its profile- and template-driven user interface meets the most complex security and teamwork requirements. Its API supports XML and Java standards.
