Statistics about Supercomputers

Only a few systematic, detailed statistical samples are available in information technology. Certainly there is, however, one exception, the high performance computing – which is in some sense the leading edge of information technology – where the TOP500 lists are published twice a year since June 1993, nearly ten years. This list contains the 500 most powerful supercomputers.

The presentation will overview the trends in this field, starting with the increase of power of supercomputers and discussing among other features the changes in architectures, application fields as well as in the geographical distribution of supercomputers.
