BME Automatizálási és Alkalmazott Informatikai Tsz

In people’s life the owned information always played an important role. In our days it is especially true in the business era, where all information is related to financial profit or loss. This is the main reason, why companies try to create an information base in order to ease their own operation and to be in up-to-date contact with their business partners. Some years ago archives were these information bases, but in the new century all organisation tries to switch to the idea of the paperless office.

Electronic documents slowly but surely supersede the archives. There are different types of electronic documents, and this variegation makes the systematising and searching a very complicated process.

Another problem is the way the users access the information. Just think of the IT infrastructure of organisations – it can be very diverse. Users may want to access information any time, anywhere and from any device, and of course in secure circumstances. Some documents can be accessed even by our business partners, others are internal, strictly confidential papers that can be accessed only by the management and it is highly regulated who can modify these documents in the management team.

The answer to these demands is to elaborate a unitary document library. Because we want to provide any time, anywhere and any device access to this document library, it is practical to design a web-based user interface. To make the browsing easier, we can define a hierarchical category system and to help the users finding the right document, we can provide a search engine, which is optimised for document management.

In this session you will get an overview of the available Microsoft document management and web portal technologies and you will learn how to combine them. You can get a behind the scene view of the Microsoft Hungary’s Developer Portal (http://www.developer.hu) which was implemented using these concepts and technologies.
