In recent years, video sharing portals have had increasing popularity; millions of end-users visit these portals on a daily basis in order to share their new videos and to watch similar recordings of others. It is no question anymore, that video sharing portals have brought new forms of content creation and publishing. They have transformed the way users obtain information nowadays and as virtual communities organize themselves.

What advantages could bring similar, but thematic higher education and research video sharing portals for our community? What interesting international initiatives and projects do exist? How do they support daily work of educators and researchers? What technologies we need to create a resilient and usable video sharing portal?

This lecture attempts to answer these questions. In addition, we introduce our plans to reconstruct NIIF Video on Demand portal to serve as a complex education and research video sharing portal.
