What is e-science? How science, research, and scientific communication have evolved? How these changes are reflected in the library?s role? What are the consequences for the library community?

What is the function of libraries in the digital age, where data and new scientific results are created in digital form, where digitalization of archivael scientific literature is in process, where the fundamental processes and phases of scientific communication have changed.

In the data universe, how can libraries make use of their experience in managing large and complex collections? Do they have a task in the publication process? Do they know the informational behaviour of the future scientists? Can they play an important role in the scholarly knowledge cycle of the e-science era or will they be excluded?

My lecture will answer only the first few questions. And what about all the others? I hope I can show you, that the time has come for us to face them, to think about them.
