With the guidance of the london-based MDR Partners, an international consortium was found, and has submitted the EuropeanaLocal (earlier called EDLocal) proposal to the eContentPlus programme, that covers three and a half years, and ? simply put - is aiming to make local and regional digital content available through the European Digital Library, called Europeana. Members of the consortium include national, regional and municipal libraries and museums, various organizations based at digitizing national cultural heritage, totaling at 31 partners in over 17 countries of Europe. Hungary is represented by the Library of Békés county, and this poses an incredible opportunity at popularizing the heritage and diversity of our language and culture. All this can be achieved by improving our digital content, standardizing and making our metadata more easily harvestable, and developing a multilingual service.

In this project the Library of Békés county was given the task of supervising and coordinating the activities around processing and representing the descriptive data of all digitized content in an appropriate standard that is in accordance with the European Digital Library, and thus ensures a uniform way of storing and querying our content and metadata on an international scale. Our most valuable partners are public collections maintained by their counties, with whom we already successfully cooperated in the Light project, and in various other telecommunications and informatics tenders. We are putting the stress on releasing the valuable digitized content of these museums, but are also aiming to embrace other collections maintained by a number of different important regional institutes.
