Since the 1971 foundation of the picture database of the University Collection it has continuously been expanded by the pictures of persons, events and buildings in connection with the institution. At first, these pictures were taken to envelopes and tags were made to them. Today we make digital copies of them and keep various computerised registers with a data structure.

For the description of a picture it is important to know who or what is seen in them. In case of a tableau the task is more difficult because of the differentiation between the persons in the picture.

Providing help to this problem, the procedure we developed handles the raster picture as part of a vector graphic image, and in a register with a MARC data structure it not only records the names but the coordinates of the objects found in the picture.
