New dimensions of communication in the museum : IT Support of the exhibitions

Positive inspirations of the fast changing social environment address museums and indulges museums to give answers adequate to special professional situations. Besides the presentation of the original documents now the communication of copies and reality-representations using new media have become integral part of the activities of a museologist. The famous phrase of McLuhan, “the medium is the message” of course refers to the decisive role of the carrier on the one hand: new communication technologies bring about new human environment and new organization of ideas. Role of informatics in directing exhibitions can be defined as augmentation of transmitter- recipient knowledge communication, it evokes a completely new form of exhibition by means of virtuality and network culture. In the exhibition concept the augmentation of the physical space, previously unknown ways of mechanisms by the recipients, active participation of the exhibition visitor must be taken into account. Using audiovisual, multimedia techniques in contrast with the two-dimensional word of picture-text (art piece – inscription), where the visitor is there as a “guest”, may make the recipient part of an intellectual discourse.
