The Hungarian telephone usage habits are moving toward the mobiles from the fixed deskphones.

At the same time we do not want to publicate our mobile phone number: we do not want to put our SIM number on the web as we do not want to be reachable in the evenings or weekends for anyone, rather we publicate only the numer of the deskphone. But if our colleague is frequently out of the office, it is hard to reach him. There are times when we are not in office but we could receive calls on our mobile. Forwarding all calls from deskphone to mobile is not a real solution: we cannot cancel call forwarding remotely for the evenings/weekends and we do not see the number of the caller on the mobile.

On international travels, conferences we might have to limit our mobile usage – sometimes even the receving of calls – as the roaming charges are still high. But Voice over IP (VoIP) techology has been here for several years and typically there is free WIFI at conferences, hotels, restaurants. Though the use of free VoIP calls are not typical using smartphones as the setup of the VoIP is complicated for a typical user. Even if we use VoIP, we won’t be reachable for free on our business number.

In my presentation I introduce the result of the product development of KFKI Ltd, a system integrator dauther company of Hungarian Telekom. Using this Fixed Mobile Convergence solution the deskphone and mobile ring together and we can see the original caller on mobile, too. We can initiate a call either from the deskphone or the mobile and the called party will see the same corporate phone number. The dual ring functionality can be turned on or off from the mobile. The roaming charges can be by-passed using the built-in VoIP functionality: the caller will call the deskphone number and I can receive this call for free even abroad. I can also dial any number without paying roaming charges: the called party will see my office number. The VoIP functionalty is automatic and easy to use: the user has to connect only to the WIFI, no other action is required. If there is no WIFI connection, roaming charges for outgoing calls can be halved using the automatic callback functionality, just to mention the most important cost reduction features.

After the installation of the solution we can receive and start calls from our SIM card as before, but it is adviced to publicate our SIM number only to the VIP partners and use the office number for the corporate calls.

To summarize, with the Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), after the integration of the mobiles to the PBXes the telephone communcation becames more effective, our accessibility improves while we got control over when do we want to be accessible on mobile for corporate calls. For international travels we can achieve significant cost reduction, finally we can freely talk on mobile.
