We use adaptive devices in every part of our lives: our mobile phones, consumer electronic devices, computer programs and even our cars are able to react to certain environmental changes: e.g. our car heats if it is cold, cools if it is hot, wipes the windscreen if there is rain, even without our intervention. These systems, however, react only to a limited set of parameters and are usually unable to cooperate. The ILI (Intelligens LátogatóIrányító -- Intelligent Visitor Guidance) System does just that: it is able to transform hospitals, museums, parking lots, office buildings or even a shopping mall into adaptive, intelligent spaces where the users (i.e. visitors, employees and shoppers) receive information and services that are customised based on their behaviour, position and actions.

To demonstrate the framework, we created a pilot system that demonstrates the potential of the framework in an office environment. The intelligent, proactive framework is built up as the set of modular subsystems implemented using the SOA paradigm. Easily replaceable and separable components are responsible for location management, connecting the sensors and actuators, navigation, command distribution, event handling and content management. The intelligence of the ILI system is provided by a real-time agent system that also contains a decision module using semantic technologies.
