The NDSS has successfully attained its original objective to facilitate interlibrary loan. The system providing services to over 1100 registered libraries, and handling about 40,000 requests annually has undergone considerable development the last time in 2003. The University and National Library of Debrecen was successful in the TÁMOP (Social Revival Operative Programme) 2.3.4 tender aiming at the development of nationwide library services, thus gaining the possibility of modernization now.

The tender’s development packages together with the tender for the Hungarian National Shared Catalogue (HNSC) development aim at a uniform system available both for individuals and libraries, including cataloging, location and actual access parameter register of Hungarian document-collection, supply condition records of libraries participating in NDSS, and document circulation based on these. The program will be strongly connected to the online library space providing its services both to users searching originally in other bibliographic databases, and possibility for further navigation.

The nodes of the development building on the bibliographic database and data upload mechanisms of the HNSC are the following:

Full integration of the elements – including the HNSC database – must be realized during the system development, what makes the application of standardized solutions essential in every field. Due to the integration, from the searches initiated at the HNSC platform the users can access the services of the NDSS, and likewise, it will be possible to perform such a search at the NDSS platform, that confirms with the fullness expected from the HNSC. The possibility of further development must be assured at the system planning, what will aim both at the integration of further data providers into the system, and building new services upon it.
