By using services of the recently launched eduID federation, users of different organizations can use services of other institutions and partners (that can be commercial providers). Users are authenticated at their home institutions, which provides easy-to-use and secure service access for end users, and providers could manage their users in a transparent and manageable way.

Based on international examples, it is expected that in the near future, eduID users will be granted access to highly valuable contents: scientific databases, software, computing resources etc. In order to achieve this, proper trust relationship must be built between providers and institutions. This is what federation is about.

The presentation describes the structure of the federation and gives an overview of the process and the requirements an institution must meet in order to become eduID enabled.
