As of 1 January 2011, by virtue of Act CXLVIII of 2010, the
name of the Hungarian Patent Office changed to Hungarian Intellectual Property
Office (HIPO). This is in conformity
with the Office's new wide range of activities, now including all titles of
industrial property and copyright. The new provisions concerning the competence
of the Office reflect its extended range of tasks as a result of these
amendments. Due to the change of its activities the tasks to be carried out by
the HIPO cover the registration of organisations performing the collective
management of copyright and neighbouring rights, the supervision of their
activities and the preparation for ministerial approval of their tariffs. What does collective rights management mean?
What is the main purpose of the organisation performing collective rights
management? What are the purposes of the new supervision regime and what are
the effects of the new supervision policy on the users? This presentation aims to
provide answers to these and similar questions.
