Researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences were given the opportunity to keep records and present the core bibliographic data of their research activities – reflected in publication output – and the reception of their published works – reflected through citations and other references. Providing up to date information about teaching faculty publications has become an increasingly important task. Our institution started to use the the national Database of Hungarian Scholarly Works (Magyar Tudományos Művek Tára, abbreviated as MTMT) in 2011. Related to this matter I wish to draw attention to some aspects and elements of bibliographic descriptions used for bibliometric purposes necessary to be refined. Taking into account the academic requirements the standard unit of citation metrics are compared to other counting methods that appear in some fields of humanities. Principles, issues of citation bibliographic control, genres and types of references and citations are discussed as well.
