Operation of HBONE+ WDM system, evolving towards 100G transmission

The DWDM system deployed within the HBONE+ project is a so called new generation WDM system which is composed of ROADM nodes havingl switching capability in the optical domain, being recongifigurable and allowing the implementation meshed optical networks, resulting in much complex operational situations. In the first part I will present the solutions implemented to cope with the extensive tasks, like e2e service management, Wavelength Tracker to track services physically in the network or the handling of alien signals.
In the second part I will introduce the transmission beyond 10Gb/s, especially 100Gb/s transmission over DWDM which becomes due nowadays. I will address issues raised at these extended transmission rates.
