RFID technology is a wireless solution for identification which can be used to simplify collection management tasks. Beside logistics and warehouse companies it gets broader attention by cultural heritage organisations such as libraries as well. The introduction of RFID provides new possibilities which can improve in-house productivity or make the organisation more attractive. Most of these functions are not possible with legacy tools.

The aim of this presentation is to give an inner look at the technology, to introduce the hardware devices and to show solutions for application in library environment. It compares the most widely used barcode based identification with RFID. It also describes the integration methods with software environments, how the wireless devices and security options can be used, and how the self issue solutions can work with radio identification.

During the presentation the audience will learn about the methodologies used by connecting RFID with Monguz Ltd.'s integrated library system called HunTéka. It will also introduce our next generation self issue developments.
