NIIF Supercomputing has arrived to a milestone by connecting to PRACE, the joint european HPC infrastructure PRACE is a strategically important EU project aiming to use european supercomputing resources the most optimal way, joining its resources if necessary to achieve better usage ratios and bigger capacities.
Hungary joined PRACE project at 2011. By joining the project, hungarian research community can aspire resources from the most advanced Supercomputers in the world located in Europe - most of them are participating in PRACE.
There are three ways to integrate a Supercomputer to PRACE, Tier-0, Tier-1, Tier-2 levels. The largest SC-s are in Tier-0 level, the National mediocre level SC-s are in Tier-1, and the regional HPC centers are in Tier-2.
NIIF wants to join PRACE at Tier-1 level, offering resources from its HPC center located in Budapest. The fast Network - which is essential when connecting Supercomputing resources - are guaranteed by GÉANT network - NIIF is already part of.
Through the process of Integration, the PRACE Middlewares are needed to be integrated on the SC connected to the project. The integration have to be done on the 6 following level:
• Network Services
Ensure fast and secure connection between the SC, and the users
• Data Services
Input and Output Data management
• Compute Services
Batch systems, and related applications and services
• AAA Services
Authentication, Authorization and Accounting
• User Services
Management of applications and services used by HPC users
• Monitoring Services
Monitoring of HPC applications and resources
On this presentation, the process of the integration is introduced. The aim of the Institute is to join to the frontline of the european HPC infrastructure helping to achieve joint european HPC resources, and the most optimal usage of these resources.
