Europeana is a common portal of 2200 European cultural heritage institutions covering 24 million records and a cooperating network of projects and instuitutions. The presentation shows the portal's technological background. Which are the main theoretical and practical differences between the older ESE (Europeana Semantic Elements) and the newer EDM (Europeana Data Model) metadata model and formats? What are the advantages of EDM, what kind of description, display and search possibilities it realizes? How the data aggregation and migration work? What are the design principles of the new Europeana portal and the new API (e.g. the application, advantages and challanges of "mobile first" principle)? Internalization. Search possiblilities. Semantic web in practice (schema.org mapping, RDF publication). Social services (Facebook, blog, Pinterest, Wikipedia etc.) and social activities (Hackdays, Collection days, Wikithon). The legal background changes (introduction of CC0 license) and implications. The purpose and usage of API, subscription, documentation. The hardware setup behind the scenes.
