The service improvement project of the Károly Eszterházy College Pál Tittel Library and Media Centre was aimed mostly toward the improvement of library catalogues. Following the researches of technical literatures we examined how the increasing rate of information consumption by mobile phones can be a benefit of enhancing the usage of our online catalogues. Based on international trends it could be seen that with the development of popular applications for smart phones and tablets readers can easily and comfortably access information, which greatly increases the popularity of the use of library services.

Mobile applications were developed for Windows mobile, Android and iOS platforms for the existing electronic library database and digital document library, which made possible to easily access library catalogues via the e-library database, and to use and download digital contents. With the help of the application the registered readers can browse the marked content, read the metadata of it, and can also view and download the contents. During the mentioned activities the copyrights can be protected via electronic rights management system.

It is important that with the help of the mobile application the web or other interfaces used for lending can be used with the platform specifically developed client software.

Properties of the user interface:

• Easy to navigate: less and transparent processes. The options are limited to the most important function and services.
• Easy to use: graphic buttons are highlighted where it is possible.
• The size of the application is reduced: less and smaller files, minimal and clear graphic components.
• Mobile optimized browsing, responsive display and operation.
