The Practical Use of Terminological Databases in the Education of Terminologists and Interpreters

Cross-border economic cooperation and intercultural living conditions resulting from the exercise of the freedoms of the European Union make it indispensable in many areas of law to display national rights in other languages. For the rapidly developing technology and IT this process means further motivation to develop solutions and methodologies that facilitate the multilingual exchange of information, thus placing the issue of terminology research and application in focus point. The research outlines the main advantages of the terminology database developments that occur during the translation of legal documentary, including their practical benefits that manifest themselves throughout the training of terminologists and translators. Throughout this process approaches, methods, and the modern, reliable databases are going to be presented, which will provide help with the work of professional translators and will promote improvements in the quality of technical translations. I placed terminology at the center of the research, which I approached from the point of view of practice. Accordingly, I intend to show how different terminology databases can be used in solving the terminological questions and problems arising throughout the translation process of the legal documents. From the point of view of education it is essential for future translators, interpreters and terminologists to be perfectly aware of the main steps of the construction, use and maintenance of certain terminology databases. Terminology databases are to be looked at as progressive, modern aids for translators, the existence and use of which is essential in the work of translators. From the perspective of terminologists their use allows the updating, the targeted repair and the expansion of terminology in some particular area of law, with unlimited storage and the possibility of indicating additional information. Modern terminology databases also greatly contribute to the creation of term equivalence in multilingual legal documents, adjusting to the arising short-term needs on the one hand, and providing real options of disposal over the data on the other hand, making it possible to scan, organize, analyze and summarize them - all in the matter of moments.
