Increasing digital literacy - Network of eHungary Points

In 2012 digital illiteracy among the population aged 15 and over was 44.5% in Hungary (source: Hungarian Infocommunications Report 2012, Bell Research). This means that there are still about 3.5 million people in our country who are unable to use the more and more dominant digital technologies of our time.
The eMagyarország Program is designed to develop the information society, especially the development of digital literacy. Elimination of the factors which are impeding the development of the information society, as well as increasing the level of digital literacy, granting the operation and development of public spaces - eHungary Points -, strengthening the affiliation of infocommunication technology to the local communities, providing information to improve the quality of life of people, implementing motivational programs.


Goals:
• Increasing digital literacy (basic ICT knowledge and usage), especially for disadvantaged regions and social groups,
• Increasing information literacy (advanced ICT knowledge and usage), especially for disadvantaged regions and social groups,
• Supporting, strengthening and developing Public Internet Access Points (PAIPs),
• Supporting, strengthening and developing the eCounselor System to propagate digital and information literacy by trainings and informative presentations,
• Organizing adult training programs (ICT, foreign language) of national uniform standards in order to achieve the adult education and training goals, as well as to support and maintain employment growth.


The background for the achievement of these goals is provided by the Network of eHungary Points, in close cooperation with the involved sections of the Hungarian Network of Libraries. The basis of the cooperation is enhanced by the synergies of NIIFI’s other projects, particularly in relation to infrastructure.
The first part of this presentation is rounding up the most important stages of the Network of eHungary Points’ development and achievements. The second part of the presentation introduces the envisioned tasks of the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme (GINOP) for the 2014-2020 period, based on the Europe 2020 strategy.
