More then a decade ago Hungary's major internet providers decided to establish the Council of Internet Providers, with the aim of consolidation of their professional labour and easing, solving and handling certain common problems. Nowadays the CIP has thirty five members, who are mainly smaller or larger Hungarian Internet providers.
From the beginning, the CIP regards the question of network security as an important task, so it created and since then manages, with the support of SZTAKI, one of the first Computer Emergency Response Teams, the CERT. The official name of this team is Hun-CERT, to diferentiate it from other countries' similar organizations. The Hun-CERT mainly carries out information exchange, coordinating and network incident handling role for the members of CIP.
Internet security has become one of the determining element in the life of countries these days. Major changes have happened in this field recently in Hungary as well. New organizations with new powers were formed. The government appointed a cyber-coordinator and the National Incident-handling Workgroup was created below it. The Hun-CERT, beside of several other participants, became one of it's members.
Based on the expertise of the CIP members and according to the governmental intentions, Hun-CERT carries out a professional role in setting up and solving tasks. It was assigned to carry out a network security incident handling excercise, which will optimize this type of multi-person operation in practice. Hun-CERT is not newcomer to such activities, because recently it designed and supervised a similar excercise in a small circle, only with the CIP members involved.
Our presentation will introduce the Hungarian community of organizations responsible for network security, sketch international trends and their local realizations and report on our experiences from the recently carried out excercises.
